You may scroll directly to the “Current Selected Legislation” below and click one the Bill Summary link to open a new page or tab in your browser that bypasses all of the steps 1-9 below.

1.    You should be able to click on the link below and open a new page or tab in your browser. Should this fail, copy and paste the website URL below in your browser. Having arrived at this website you may wish to bookmark it for easy reference.

2.    Make sure the Biennium is set to 2021-22.

3.    Click on “Bill Number”.

4.    Type in the bill number – if it is valid a smaller copy will show up below the number you typed in.

5.    Click on the smaller number.

6.    Click on “Search”.

7.    Wait – you will then get an index of bills – yours should appear at the top of the list.  Each listing has a bill number HB #### or SB #####.  

8.    Click on that number.

9.    This will take you to the bill status, which provides information on where the bill is in its passage route.  You can also get copies of the bills, fiscal notes, amendments, etc

Current Selected Legislation

SHB 1218 – Requiring emergency preparedness in Long Term Care Facilities; Emergency preparedness, improvements in communication, resident information, and notice of sanctions  (Macri is a co-sponsor)

HB 1372 – Billy Frank, Statuary Hall; Would replace the statue of Marcus Whitman in Statuary Hall with a statue of Billy Frank.  Macri is a co-sponsor; referred to State Government and Tribal Relations, Substitute bill passed out of committee to Appropriations.

HB 1156 – Ranked Choice Voting for Local Government; Authorizes use of ranked-choice voting. Chopp and Macri are on the sponsorship list. The LWV urges support.  Status: Passed all House Committees, next step is a vote of the House.

HB 1234 – Firearms on Capitol Campus; Prohibits open carry on the capitol campus and municipal buildings. Macri is a sponsor. The LWV urges support. In Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee.

SB 5182 – Eliminates “advisory” votes; Removes requirement for a non-binding vote on taxes established or increased by the legislature Pedersen is a sponsor. The LWV urges support.

SHB 1054 – Sets standards for police conduct; Prohibits choke-holds, use of tear gas, nukutart equipment.  

Status:   Passed House, referred to Senate Law and Justice Committee; Public Hearing scheduled 10:30 a.m. March 11, 2021; See Bill Summary for latest update [Updated 3/11/21]

SHB 1202 – Civil Procedure in Matters of Police Misconduct; Creates a private right of action and award of attorneys’ fees if successful for certain acts of law enforcement; authorizes the AG to commence civil action when a pattern and practice appears.  Macri is on the sponsorship list.  The ACLU urges support.

SHB 1310 – De-escalation and use of Force by Law Enforcement Officers; Places limits on use of force by law enforcement.  Macri is on the sponsorship list. The ACLU urges support.

SB 5148 Harassment of Elected Officials – Class B Felony; Expands protections from harassment for civil servants ad elected officials. Pedersen is a sponsor. The LWV urges support.

SSB 5034 – Nonprofit Corporations; A complete rewrite of the nonprofit corporation act.  Put Barber has been an active member of the bar committee (as a non-lawyer) that drafted the proposal.  Sponsored by Pedersen, Padden, and Mullet.  The Washington State Bar urges support. 

Status:    Passed Senate 49 Yes, 0 No, Scheduled for hearing in House Committee on Civil Rights and Judiciary Public Hearing March 10, and Executive action March 12. SB 5038 – Firearms on State Capitol Grounds; Prohibits open carry of firearms on the State Capitol Grounds and at public demonstrations; Pedersen is a co-sponsor;

H 1336 – Broadband Internet; Permits Public Utility Districts and Municipalities to develop and provide broadband internet services to users. Note:  Substitute bill, passed initial committee, now in Rules Committee.
