How Good is that Charity?

There are endless appeals from charitable organizations and non-profits in our mail boxes, but how can we know how good they are?  One way to check an organization is to look at Charity Navigator.  This gives “stars” to the organization based on their efficiency and transparency.  A good example is United Way which gets a top ranking above 90% in both categoriesA not so good example is the Institute for Cancer Research which spends more than half its funds for fund raising and administration – and only 43% on programs.  They get a 2 star.

So click on Charity Navigator and find the rating of your favorite charities!
