Remembering Victor Paul Johnson

Victor Paul Johnson M.D. Obituary (From the Seattle Times). “Our beloved husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Victor Paul Johnson, age 83, passed away after a brief illness in Sun City West, AZ on March 9, 2016.

Paul was born in 1932 in Butte, MT to Thure and Anna (Linden) Johnson, both Swedish immigrants. He grew up in Butte with his older sister, Ruth Foster, and graduated from Butte High School in 1950. After finishing his undergraduate degree and medical school at St. Louis University, he met Luci Demarte, a nurse, while completing his internal medicine residency in Portland, OR. They wed and remained happily married for 39 years until Luci passed away in 1999.

After residency, Paul practiced internal medicine in Kalispell, MT and later Minneapolis, MN. He was drafted into the U.S. Army as a physician and served a tour in Vietnam. Upon release, he completed a residency in radiology in Denver, CO. In the early seventies, they moved to Billings, MT, where he and Luci raised their family, and Paul practiced medicine for 25 years.

After the loss of Luci, Paul relocated to Seattle, WA. Paul split his time between Seattle, WA, and Sun City West, AZ, and traveled extensively. Of particular importance were his visits to see extended family in Sweden and biking across Vietnam. In 2011, he moved to Skyline at First Hill Retirement Community. Here, he met and married Margaret (Peg) Haggerty in 2014.

Throughout his life, Paul has made many dear friends in the various communities in which he has lived. He has been blessed with wonderful faith communities in each place that he has called home and has maintained many of these friendships over his lifetime. He was loved by many.

Paul is survived by his loving wife, Peg; his children, Paula (Gary) Reeves and daughters Francesca and Gabriella; Vicki (Bill) Stocker and children Emma, Evan, Sophie and Liam; John (Catherine) and his sons, Alex and Tyler; and Catherine (Brian) Mulhall and daughter Isabella. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Foster, and numerous nieces and nephews.
